Sodexo is seeking an Executive Chef 1 for The University Club of Pittsburgh at Pittsburgh University located in Pittsburgh, PA.  The University Club is a private club in the middle of campus at the University of Pittsburgh.  We have a casual restaurant / bar area as well as a fine dining area which are only open Monday- Friday, as well as a roof top patio for members.  We also have several banquet rooms to rent for members and non-members.  We host numerous weddings and corporate events throughout the year. 


The successful candidate will need to excel at ala-carte dinning, menu creation, plate presentation, small and large scale catering for banquets and weddings. This candidate will need to be able to create menus which reflect local ingredients, seasonal changes, culinary trends and exceed customer expectations. The position is responsible to manage food costs, inventory, purchasing, scheduling, labor costs, kitchen maintenance and cleanliness, health department inspections and NSF audits. The expectation of this position is to increase the level of food quality, develop a knowledgeable kitchen staff, raise the level of production and improve the overall food program at the University Club.

  • Manage the daily food production including production planning and controls;
  • Ensure Sodexo Culinary Standards including recipe compliance and food quality;
  • Manage food costing, controls and compliance;
  • Develop menus and manage inventory;
  • Have high expectations for customer service and quality of food;
  • Have the ability and willingness to develop and train frontline employees;
  • Have a passion for food and innovation;
  • Knowledge of Sodexo Food Management System (FMS) is preferred.


The ideal candidate has:

  • A strong culinary background, with the demonstrated ability to stay current with new culinary trends;
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to maintain the highest of standards and implements company policies;
  • Previous experience working in a high volume facility; and
  • Strong management skills.

Position Summary

Provides culinary leadership within a small sized unit including menu planning, program execution and staff management & training.  Works directly with internal and external clients managing the catering process from beginning through execution
Key Duties
-Executes the culinary function
-Customer & Client satisfaction
-Manages food & physical safety program.


Qualifications & Requirements

Basic Education Requirement - Associate's Degree
Basic Management Experience - 2 years
Basic Functional Experience – 1 year work experience in food or culinary services including restaurants, fast food, vending, catering services, institutional services, mall food courts, etc.
