Sodexo is seeking an experienced Grounds Manager for our client partners at the Bethune Cookman University in beautiful Daytona Beach, FL   A strong sense of organization and sense of urgency is required for this role.Excellent skills with Work Order Systems like Maximo and SMS are required. Our salary is on the higher end of the posted range. Artificial turf field management experience is required and Pesticide Applicator License and a strong Agronomy and Horticulture background are preferred.

The successful candidate for this role will have an excellent eye for detail, the dedication to get the work done and the compassion to mentor and properly train, lead and manage our cohesive  team. We need a proactive thinker, organized enough to balance between office and field duties equally. 

 

Enjoy a campus working environment with great clients and students. Our successful candidate will have an excellent eye for detail on the edging trimming, flower beds, trees and lawns, and athletic fields and have excellent people management skills, communicating frequently with team to reduce turnover rate and with Sodexo management team on preventative and projected maintenance, mulch, spraying and irrigation. Experience with irrigation systems including replacement will be helpful. Our Ideal candidate will possess mechanical knowledge and be able to manage hourly teams to promote employee retention.

This position will oversee campus events involving collaboration with Student Life, Parking and Transportation and Special Events including graduation and homecoming.  

 

Key responsibilities:

Plan, organize and oversee the daily activities of all campus grounds and landscaping services staff. Establish and continuously review performance standards, goals and objectives.

  • Manage external vendors
  • Knowledge of Irrigation Systems a plus
  • Certification in pesticide application preferred
  • Manage seasonal plantings and pesticide applications
  • Manage budget for the entire Grounds Program, purchasing, repair and materials
  • Present a professional personal appearance  that reflects the University image and brand
  • Schedule and perform routine inspections of all campus grounds and landscape to ensure quality
  • Assure service staff uniforms, personal protective equipment, and other safety gear are used properly
  • Manage the hiring and performance management, and professional development process for frontline hourly team
  • Execute and update yearly the campus snow removal plan, manage maintenance of snow removal and equipment
  • Ensure all grounds and facilities vehicles and equipment are maintained to a safe and serviceable condition and workshop facilities are kept clean and tidy 

Requirements

  • Artificial turf field management experience Required
  • Preferred 3 years of Grounds leadership experience preferred
  • Knowledge with hardscapes, machinery and fencing strongly preferred
  • Understanding of large mowers and grounds equipment maintenance as well as hand-held equipment including trimmers, lawn-edgers, seeders and more
  • Experience working with and maintaining sports fields both natural grass and synthetic preferred
  • Computer literacy as well as excellent leadership, communication and customer service skills

Qualifications & Requirements

Basic Education Requirement - Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
Basic Management Experience – 3 years
Basic Functional Experience – 3 years of work experience in facilities grounds maintenance
