Role Overview

Sodexo is seeking a Construction Field Engineer to support a Pharmaceutical Life Science client located in Rahway, NJ. This position will support construction activities on a 90+ building life sciences campus site, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, and in compliance with project specifications and regulatory requirements. Assist in field coordination, quality control, and technical documentation while gaining hands-on experience in a highly regulated construction environment.

What You'll Do

Field Coordination and & Oversight 

  • Assist in overseeing daily construction activities, ensuring adherence to project plans and safety protocols
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, and site personnel to resolve field issues
  • Monitor work progress and provide input to schedule updates

Technical Support and Documentation 

  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and work plans to assist with field implementation
  • Track and document field activities, including RFIs, work permits, and change orders
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), FDA regulations, and other life sciences industry standards

Quality and Safety Compliance 

  • Support QA/QC inspections and ensure construction meets design specifications
  • Participate in safety walks and audits, reinforcing OSHA and site-specific safety guidelines
  • Identify and report any non-conformance issues or potential risks

Communication & Problem Solving 

  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and field teams to troubleshoot issues
  • Attend site meetings and provide updates on field activities
  • Assist in preparing reports, punch lists, and closeout documentation

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent field experience).
  • 0-3 years of construction experience, preferably in pharmaceutical, biotech, or other life sciences facilities.
  • Understanding construction processes, engineering principles, and safety regulations.
  • Familiarity with GMP, FDA, and cleanroom construction standards is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment with a focus on precision and compliance.
