We are excited to announce the opening of Poppy & Claro a restaurant in downtown San Jose.

 

We are seeking an innovative and experienced Restaurant Executive Chef to lead the culinary team at Poppy & Claro.

 

Poppy & Claro is a refined yet relaxed all day – restaurant that’s grounded in the spirit of Northern California ingredients. We will open from first light through the golden hour the menu is guided by what’s grown nearby layered with global flavors anchored in live-fire cooking- all set in a warm space rooted in Golden State Modernism. The menu at Poppy & Claro evolves with the day: from morning coffee and pastries, to light yet satisfying lunches, to afternoon bites, happy hour cocktails, and memorable dinners. Dishes are rooted in Northern California seasonality, accented by live-fire cooking, and layered with global influences

What You'll Do

  • Lead and manage the kitchen team: Recruit, train, mentor, and inspire a cohesive culinary team to maintain high standards of professionalism and productivity
  • Menu development and execution: Create and evolve the menu, incorporating hearth cooking techniques, seasonal ingredients, and aligning with the restaurant's vision
  • Operational excellence: Maintain food safety, cleanliness, kitchen organization, and health code compliance
  • Cost control and financial management: Manage food and labor costs, analyze reports, and ensure profitability.
  • Collaboration and communication: Partner with management to align culinary direction with business goals and contribute to a positive guest experience

What You Bring

  • Build and maintain relationships with local purveyors and farmers to source the freshest ingredients
  • Experience in chef-driven restaurants
  • Knowledge or a strong interest in hearth cooking techniques is also highly valued
  • Necessary culinary expertise includes advanced knowledge of food preparation, flavor combinations, and various cooking methods, especially those used in hearth cooking

Qualifications & Requirements

Minimum Education Requirement - Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
Minimum Management Experience - 5 years
Minimum Functional Experience - 3 years
