Role Overview

You want high visibility, challenging opportunities, and a rewarding environment.

Sodexo's Campus Segment is seeking a Retail Manager 3 to join our team at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, NY — a prestigious private university serving 7,500 students, faculty, and staff.

This position offers a dynamic opportunity to oversee multiple retail locations across campus, including coffee shops, Jimmy John’s, Bird n’ Brine, the C-Store, and Athletics Concessions. The ideal candidate will be an energetic, hands-on leader with a passion for service excellence and operational efficiency in a fast-paced university setting.

As Retail Manager 3, you will lead and coordinate the daily operations of multiple campus retail locations. You’ll ensure financial accountability, labor scheduling, and staff training while maintaining high standards for safety, sanitation, and customer satisfaction. You’ll also serve as a key campus partner, engaging directly with clients, students, and vendors to uphold Sodexo and brand standards.

What You'll Do

  • Oversee all retail operations including coffee shops, branded retail outlets, C-store, and athletic concessions.

  • Manage and optimize labor schedules and payroll within budget parameters.

  • Drive financial performance through effective cost control, menu planning, and inventory management.

  • Lead and develop frontline (hourly-paid) employees — providing training, coaching, and annual performance reviews.

  • Ensure adherence to all sanitation, food safety, and physical safety standards.

  • Oversee cash handling, POS system maintenance, and daily financial reporting.

  • Maintain brand standards and merchandising excellence for all retail concepts.

  • Support and coordinate product delivery between venues (driving box truck/van).

  • Build strong client relationships through open communication and responsive service.

  • Contribute to marketing, promotions, and special event planning to enhance the on-campus retail experience

What We Offer

Compensation is fair and equitable, partially determined by a candidate's education level or years of relevant experience. Salary offers are based on a candidate's specific criteria, like experience, skills, education, and training. Sodexo offers a comprehensive benefits package that may include:

  • Medical, Dental, Vision Care and Wellness Programs
  • 401(k) Plan with Matching Contributions
  • Paid Time Off and Company Holidays
  • Career Growth Opportunities and Tuition Reimbursement

More extensive information is provided to new employees upon hire.

What You Bring

  • Experience in retail or foodservice management (multi-unit or campus experience preferred).

  • Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to motivate and develop teams.

  • Excellent organizational, financial, and communication skills.

  • Experience with scheduling, budgeting, and labor management.

  • Working knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety protocols.

  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and event-based hours as needed.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a delivery box truck and van.

  • Experience managing branded retail concepts or concessions operations is a plus.
