Sodexo is seeking a Director 2, Facilities Operations providing operations, maintenance, repairs and minor construction for Sharp Grossmont Hospital located in La Mesa, CA.

Key Responsibilities:

You will be professionally responsible for Facilities Management regarding the proper installation, operation and maintenance of uninterrupted light, heat, power, water and monitoring systems for all health system buildings and services.

This Director of Facilities Operations will oversee Life Safety Compliance for the health system, participate in permitting, ILSM, vendor management, and training. Participate as key member of facilities management team and client leadership.  Highly customer interactive position. This position will maintain continuous survey readiness through compliance with regulations from a number of regulatory agencies, including The Joint Commission (TJC), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Will maintain regulatory readiness documentation, ensuring system is in compliance with regulatory standards and team is trained and ready for regulatory inspections.

 

You will have budget, staffing, short- and long-range planning, and program development responsibilities for the Facilities department in addition to construction/renovation operations, facility planning, maintenance, repair programs and energy management.

What You'll Do

  • Oversee day-to-day facilities and plant operations across Sharp Grossmont Hospital, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant environment.
  • Supervise, schedule, and support the maintenance/engineering team to ensure timely completion of work orders, repairs, and preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Monitor and manage building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, medical gas, and fire/life safety systems to ensure functionality, uptime, and compliance.
  • Conduct routine facility rounding to identify issues, assess readiness, and maintain Environment of Care standards.
  • Support regulatory compliance efforts, including documentation, inspections, and readiness for Joint Commission, CMS, NFPA, OSHA, and other audits.
  • Serve as acting leader in the absence of the Director of Facilities and collaborate on department planning and process improvements.
  • Assist with emergency preparedness, incident response, and business continuity planning.
  • Develop strong partnerships with clinical staff, departments, and leadership to align facility services with operational priorities.

What You Bring

  • Proven experience in healthcare facilities management, engineering, or maintenance leadership.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory and safety standards including Joint Commission, CMS, NFPA, OSHA, Environment of Care (EOC), Life Safety, and DOH requirements.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing maintenance teams, contractors, or technical staff.
  • Strong technical knowledge of the following: mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, structural, fire protection, safety systems, civil, low voltage, demolition, architectural and energy management.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, particularly in urgent or emergency situations.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage workflows, schedules, and project timelines.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with technical teams, clinical departments, and senior leadership.
  • Proficiency in CMMS tools and maintenance tracking systems.
  • Plant operations and maintenance management experience in a healthcare environment;
  • Business and financial acumen with a strong P&L understanding, excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Staff development and team building experience.
  • Certified Healthcare Facilities Manager (CHFM) is a plus.
