Role Overview

Sodexo is seeking a Director of Capital Projects to support a global life sciences client based in Rahway, NJ. This senior leadership role is accountable for the end-to-end delivery of a complex capital and expense project portfolio across a major pharmaceutical campus and will support regional operations. You will lead strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, and execution to ensure projects are delivered safely, compliantly, on time, and within financial targets. As a key integrator across Engineering, EH&S, Quality, Finance, and business stakeholders, you will align capital investments with long-term site strategy and operational needs. This role oversees a multidisciplinary organization including Project Management, OPMM, and CADD/Design teams, driving technical excellence and organizational capability. With a strong focus on governance, performance, and continuous improvement, you will elevate project delivery standards and support critical business growth initiatives.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the full lifecycle of capital and expense projects from concept through commissioning and closeout
  • Develop and manage multi-year capital plans, annual budgets, and rolling forecasts aligned to business strategy
  • Provide executive oversight of project execution, including cost, schedule, risk, quality, and contractor performance
  • Establish and enforce project governance, stage-gate processes, and standardized delivery models
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team across Project Management, OPMM, and CADD/Design functions
  • Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, EH&S, Quality, Finance, Procurement, and business leaders to align priorities
  • Oversee external partners including A/E firms, EPC/EPCM providers, and contractors, ensuring performance and accountability
  • Drive safety, regulatory compliance, and audit readiness across all capital project activities
  • Integrate sustainability, energy efficiency, and ESG objectives into capital planning and execution
  • Deliver executive-level reporting, presentations, and strategic insights to senior leadership

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related technical field (Master’s preferred)
  • 15+ years of experience delivering capital projects in regulated environments (pharma, biotech, or life sciences)
  • 7+ years of leadership experience managing multidisciplinary project teams and complex portfolios
  • Deep expertise in capital planning, financial controls, forecasting, and change management
  • Strong knowledge of GMP facilities, labs, utilities, and infrastructure within pharmaceutical environments
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders in a matrixed organization
  • Experience with EPC/EPCM delivery models, OPMM, and design/construction management practices
  • Professional certifications such as PMP, PE, CCM, or Lean/Six Sigma preferred
  • Executive-level communication skills with the ability to operate strategically and tactically
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, compliance, and continuous improvement

Qualifications & Requirements

Minimum Education Requirement - Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience

Minimum Functional Experience - 7 years in construction or related field

Minimum Management Experience - 7 years supervisory experience
